iTunes. NV+ V2 4bay's
Hi all.
I just got my first NAS.
I read on the Netgear website about the device before I both it and noted it had a iTunes Server
but I can't find how to turn the iTunes server on the NAS.
Dose the NAS have iTunes Server as it says on the Netgear website?
pls help me to turn on the iTunes server.

- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIF you look at streaming services, do you see "iTunes Streaming Server"?
If not, there is a download link for it in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=28&t=58301#p331904 - nexus30AspirantTo stream to your iphone/ipad etc I've found this post http://www.hodgin.ca/?p=370 using a product call 8player. There's a free version for testing and the full thing is £4. I didn't even need to play with any settings on my Duo v2 its just taps into the DLNA server.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserThere are other good choices, including avplayer hd (which uses FTP).
The itunes server function does something different though. It gives you a standalone itunes library that can be accessed from the iTunes client, and also can be used to stream to an AppleTV or other airport express player. You can control this from your iPhone or iPad (using apple remote).
What it doesn't do is stream directly to your iPad or iPhone. iDevices need "home sharing" for play from remote iTunes libraries, which is proprietary to Apple and not reverse engineered by the open source folks. - adamunderhillAspiranti have installed in above firmware onto my nv +v2 and can access the firefly window and done the search. its showing up in my itunes under the shared server, but when i select the itunes server from the shared list, it says loading server and then just go back to the standard music area without loading anything from my nas.
the firefly config said it found 20,000+ music files so why are these not showing up.
also the firefly config page keeps not being accessible. not sure why.
also can firefly be used to stream videos, or do we need another system for this?
sorry for all the questions
Thanks
Adam - tbfohmanAspirantHello,
I have a 4-bay NV+ V2 and I'm having quite a time trying to get it to play movies downloaded from iTunes.
Actually, Handbrake, Make MKV, and any other "archiving" utility is a hit-or-miss as to whether the video will play.
I have a hardwired Sony NSZ-GS8 media player.
I've set my iTunes library to be on my NAS, and any downloads (music or movies) are placed properly.
(I use a Sonos system for music, and this system runs flawlessly....)
Back to the movies:
I enabled/disabled iTunes library sharing and that didn't work, so....
I've installed mdgm's "Enable iTunes Server V1.0"; my log says it was installed correctly, and gives the address for access, but I cannot access http://my.nas.IP:3689.
Also, this addon does not show up in the installed add-ons tab in frontview (raidiator 5.3.8)
I've spent countless hours web searching and lurking around user forums, and have tried everything I can think of.
The information I've found is confusing, and often contradictory from different sources.
I've spent a lot of money on this system, and could really use some help.
Much big thanks - tbfohmanAspirantI'm using raidiator 5 point 3 point 8. Not 5.3.smiley-face.....
- tbfohmanAspirantOk, I've given up on anything "iTunes" with my NV+ V2.
I installed the addon by mdgm, and couldn't get to it thru the 3689 port.
I get the message from Firefox "Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at xxx.xxx.x.xxx:3689".
I've tried IE as well....
My Sonos system plays my iTunes tunes flawlessly, and I'm not purchasing iTunes movies anymore ('cause I can't get them to play).
My question is, how do I remove the itunes server plugin by mdgm?
Thanks in advance. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredAll my add-on does is enable the firefly service if I remember correctly. It looks like that hasn't happened in this case.
- tbfohmanAspirantHey that's ok - I gave it a shot.
How do I remove it? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIt doesn't leave anything behind to remove.
