iTunes. NV+ V2 4bay's
Hi all.
I just got my first NAS.
I read on the Netgear website about the device before I both it and noted it had a iTunes Server
but I can't find how to turn the iTunes server on the NAS.
Dose the NAS have iTunes Server as it says on the Netgear website?
pls help me to turn on the iTunes server.

- Ja5onAspirantHi folks
I've been following this discussion with great interest (in particular because I have an NV+ v2 and a DUO with the same architecture I think).
I've used the add-on most kindly provided by mdgm to enable the mt-daapd setting in /etc/defaults/services and ssh'd into the box to check it for myself. After restarting the NV+ v2 there was no response to http://my.nas:3689 - so I did a bit of digging and enabled logging in /etc/mt-daapd.conf which shows the following error:
2013-10-28 21:52:56 (4035a000): Error opening db: No backend database support for type: sqlite
Is this part of the reason it's not showing anywhere? And if so what's a likely solution (if any).
I guess something SQL-y?
I'm looking around this site for guidance on sqlite, but am conscious that I don't want to break it whilst it has a couple TB of media!
[ the relevant part of /etc/mt-daapd.conf are (if not overridden elswhere)
#
# db_type (required)
#
# This is what kind of backend database to store the song
# info in. Valid choices are "sqlite" and "sqlite3".
#
db_type = sqlite

Oh yes. Now that'd work.
*blushes*
I'll have a fiddle with it to see if it actually serves content, but I get a config web page now!
Hurrah.
Thanks most kindly.
Jason - aksVirtuosoMonths ago when I first enabled the iTunes server, the file /var/log/mt-daapd.log showed:

How did the db type change?
Is it safe to simply change the db type to sqlite3, or best to do an OS reinstall (bit dramatic?)? - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredJust change the db type in the configuration file.
- aksVirtuosoUpdated etc->mt-daapd.conf database type to sqlite3. Error gone :).
Next wave of issues. The path to music is wrong, now corrected to something useful (/media/Music).
Firefly starts, config page says cannot change any settings due to access rights. Fixed by chmod'ing the config file to write by all. Now serving 28 songs from test directory.
It seems the config file was overwritten, it's all wrong. I'll check the other settings to what else I find.
Problem: not appearing in iTunes on PC (Firewall disabled). Any ideas? - aksVirtuosoIn addition to iTunes not finding the server, I have this error in the log tail:
2013-10-30 12:52:55 (4035a000): Serving 28 songs. Startup complete in 0 seconds

A missing file. - aksVirtuosoFound that I had to change the config file: runas = nobody to runas = root.
Now I see it in iTunes on a PC. Finally (again) :)!

Is it possible to see the album art in the browsing view? - NikopolAspirantHi,
I read this thread carefully, installed the add-on as advised, rebooted my NAS (I have a ReadyNAS NV+ v2) and then tried to go to the URL of the IP address of the NAS on port 3689 but my browser tells me it can't connect to the server so I guess the iTune service is not running.
Any idea what I can try?
A few comments in this thread mention unix paths like "/etc/" or "/user/" but when I browse my NAS, I don't see such root folders (but "admin", "backup", "c", "home",...) and can't find configure files mentioned....
Thx in advance for your help - aksVirtuosoWhat version of firmware do you have installed on your NV+ v2? I believe a 5.3.8 upgrade broke my installation requiring manually logging in to the box via SSH to a Linux command prompt and editing the configuration files manually.
The folders like /etc are Linux directories internal to the NAS operation (well any Linux installation) and are not the same as "shares" that you see when browsing from Windows.
