Kernel Panic during initial Install

Hey guys,

Im new to NAS and this is my first install, so im just checking everything is in order.

During the initial boot up the LED panel shows "Kernel Panic" the entire time, is this normal?
I know that for approimately 2 hours the volume is created, but i htought the panel hsould read "Installing or Creating Volume, etc"
The power LED has been flashing blue but nothing in the Act or drive lights...

The HDD im put in are an old RIAD which i want to format and rebuild, am i supposed to clear this HDD somehow prior to use?

Thanks, Benjamin

That's not normal and doesn't sound good.

Best to connect the disks up to an internal SATA port in your PC and delete the partitions, then put back in the NAS and do a factory default via the boot menu (see the hardware manuals: http://www.readynas.com/docs)

Is this a v1 (silver chassis) or v2 (charcoal chassis)?

It turns out 2 of my disks failed... although they were working previously,
the only disk that boots gives the "Kernel panic" error.

    That's a v1 unit. I explain at rnasguide.com

As for the issues with the NAS give support a call. It may be that you need to return the unit to your reseller for another one if you've only just purchased it.
