Lost connection to ReadyNAS Duo but RAIDar can see it
I have a ReadyNAS Duo for the last three years running fine on my home network. New desk top PC's sit on the network and both have been using, accessing and sharing files on the Duo all that time until today.
I can not connect to the DUO from my Vista machine. RAIDar can see it and gives me the IP address (which I use often to re-map the drives as we get a lot of power outages) but when I try and load front view or map the drive in windows it will not connect.
When I get windows network manager the map the whole network it shows me the Duo but will not let me connect.
My other newer '7' machine can see access and load frontview fine.
I have rebooted everything and loaded the latest verstions of RAIDar.
I have not had this issues before. Can anyone help please?

- oscarwildeAspirant...it's got worse for me. After lengthy discussions with support, I was advised to do an OS resintall which failed to achieve anything much - machine still visible in RAIDar but not FV/via Shares.
They finally connected to it remotely and advised today that I do an OS reinstall but with disk 2 removed from the unit. I did that, and although it seemed to be doing something (RAIDar said "updating") now the machine is no longer visible via RAIDar or FTP either. When powered-on, it briefly is visible in RAIDar but then drops off. It's pingable on the network, but no other connectivity.
Seriously worried about the data now, too, because before that intervention I did at least think I might be able to manually (and at great length) retrieve the 500GB of data I have on the unit. Now it seems I am likely going to lose the data. Which is kind of the reason I bought a redundant array in the first place.
And yes, before anybody says it, I know I should have a backup, but I've yet to be able to get the backup function working correctly either so I don't. So don't start, please :-)
Oh, and to make matters worse, I can't log into my account on the Netgear support portal and they said they'd reset the PW but it still doesn't work, so I can't see the support calls online either. - wehateworkingAspirantHello Oscarwilde, I have a very similar problem. Any news?
- mitalisAspirantThis is really odd guys.. I too starting having this problem recently ... I'm guessing this is in relation to some recent Windows "security" update.
I'm running Windows XP SP3 on Wireless, connected to a basic workgroup domain. Our ReadyNAS Duo doesn't have any special permissions setup at all, we just have 2 shares on the device: backup & media which are accessible to all computers within the workgroup.
I've setup the router with assigned DHCP addresses giving the ReadyNAS a static local IP: 192.168.1.111
On my Windows XP machine if I click on "View workgroup computers" I show all other computers appearing with the exception of the ReadyNAS.
I can ping the ReadyNAS with no issues, however if I try accessing the ReadyNAS directly via Run typing in: "\\192.168.1.1" I get the generic device not accessible, you may not have permissions error.
What's really interesting is this doesn't seem to be an isolated case on just my computer either... Other computers will at some point lose connection to the ReadyNAS when they're actively backing up files.. If I power down the ReadyNAS and boot it back up, all the computers within the workgroup can see the device again...
I'm not sure what the issue is, but it's causing a major headache for me as I had all the computers within our office running automated backups to the device with no issues up until now.
If anybody can shed some light on what the heck is going on I'd be grateful.
Thanks,
- Mitalis - dieuAspirantI Have the same problem with my ReadyNas Duo V2.
I lost the connection after a while.
I can ping it but no access in the explorer or via 192.168.1.12/admin/index.html
I tried to disable DHCP and put a static IP but no change - StephenBGuru - Experienced User192.168.1.1 ??? that is likely your router IP address, not the NAS
- dieuAspirantActually it's 192.168.1.12
.1 was an example - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou might want your own thread - this old one is already pretty mixed up, with at least 4 different ReadyNAS models, and all three platform types. In your thread, please clarify if RAIDar can see the Duo [or not] when the connection is lost.
