Lost Contents of Share (media) ?

Ok, I was playing around with the different media streaming addons - I have had ReadyDLNA, Twonky, Plex, and SqueezeServer all installed.

Currently none are running. My CIFS media share all of a sudden started showing twonky's config files, etc but none of the media files.

I went to the shares list, went to the advanced CIFS permissions, and went to redo the permissions - the message I got from the NAS was:

[media] added with default access. Please review the share access restrictions in the Share Listing page to fine-tune any default settings.

The media share came back online but it is entirely empty. About 2tb of video is gone. I can recover it elsewhere if absolutely necessary but this would be a pretty big headache. Any easy way to get the folder contents back in this scenario?

  • Should add this is a Pro 6 w/ 6x3tb Caviar Green drives that are on the HCL.

Try renaming the media share e.g. to "media1" (don't forget to click apply) then rename it back again. There is a known issue with RAIDiator 4.2.19 and some add-ons.
  • Thanks!

Renaming it to media1 gets all my files back. Excellent. But if I rename it back to media they all disappear again.

No big deal, I was going to create different shares for different media types anyway, but something is wrong if I can't use the media share name anymore.
  • I have the exact same problem. After update of Squeezecenter and ReadyNAS, I feared I had lost a bunch of my files (mostly rips of my DVD collection) so i went looking for help and saw this.

When I rename the share, the contents appear again, but the old name won't work. Not very encouraging. I'm hoping someone either from NetGear, or someone who receives support from them will post here what's going on. Thanks everyone.
  • Netgear support suggested I reinstall the OS - I went ahead and updated to the 4.2.20 - t32 beta since I have a pro6 and there was mention of specific pro6 improvements on the beta.

I've also uninstalled twonky and squeezeserver, and manually deleted the shares created by their install. I was then able to recreate a share called media and put files in it successfully.

But for now, I am leaving all my media in other shares related to plex media types: movies, tv, photos, audio, etc.
  • Also reinstalled the nightly build of squeezeserver which seems to work fine on 4.2.20 so far.
