"Mirror" Backup?
I have an old WHS box that I have been backing up my Ultra-6 to using a product called "Beyond Compare".
But the Wake On LAN option of Ultra-6's/FrontView's functionality is attractive for scheduled backups.
BC has a "Mirror To..." option - so that even though there is a file named "XYZ" on both the Ultra-6 and WHS boxes, it will check to see if one is more current than the other and update accordingly.
Is there anything like this in Ultra-6's/FrontView's built-in Backup functionality?
I'm seeing stuff like:
but I cannot find anything on the page (Backups | Add a New Backup Job | Step 4 - Choose Backup Options) to tell me what causes an incremental backup and/or what the conditions are for selecting files for same (i.e. exactly what constitutes "changed").
??

Select the desired options when backup is performed. A full backup will copy all data from the backup source. Incremental backup, where only changed data are copied, occurs between scheduled full backups, unless Every time is selected.

- Take a look at rsync. It has that functionality.

Above is a How To for NAS to NAS setup. It is for an older version of RAIDiator but it should be close enough to make sense. For the WHS side you probably want to look at DeltaCopy as it is a Windows port of rsync.
I've used this in the past for syncing NAS's between locations. - Justuser1AspirantOK, I feel very stupid - can't understand such a simple thing...
Have the same need for mirror backup from ReadyNAS 2100 to another NAS at the same network. Would like to avoid using anything besides of already built-in features.
Can't believe FrontView backup can't do this ! Still, if I choose "Full" backup, the back up job first deletes ALL files on the back up NAS before starting backing up (even if these files were not changed on the source NAS). If I choose "Incremental" - the back up job does not delete anything, just adds new files (and replaces the changed ones ?)...
After reading this forum, still can't understand - is there the simple way to create mirrored back up ? How to set up the FrontView to copy only changed files and remove only deleted ones ? - StephenBGuru - Experienced User(a) configure the destination NAS to allow rsync (with ReadyNAS this involves both enabling the service itself, and configuring the destination folder to allow rsync).
(b) Set up the ReadyNAS backup job to use Rsync - setting "Schedule full backup" to "first time".
(c) check the box that says "Remove deleted files on source". - Justuser1AspirantThanks for the reply !
Unfortunately, the destination NAS is not NetGear (it's Synology) - it's one of reasons why I wanted to do everything on the source NAS side :( - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYou still need to enable the Rsync service on the destination NAS and on the share on the destination NAS.
Everything else you would configure on the source NAS.
To be able to run a backup job on a ReadyNAS to a remote server the remote server does need to be configured to give the ReadyNAS access. - Justuser1AspirantOK, I was sure "rsync" is NetGear only feature, but after quick check seems it's available on Synology as well. Will try later today...
Thanks ! - Justuser1AspirantEverything was very easy to set up, rsync works well and does exactly what I wanted, thanks everyone !
