Missing share folder since new Win7 PC: Case#19619258 SOLVED
ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.10 [1.00a043]
Hi all
Firstly my apologies up front if this is solved in other threads, I promise I have spent a couple of hours looking already but to my untrained eye, no issue seemed to quite match so here I am.
My Duo had been perfect for a few years until recently my Win7 PC died (hard disk death). Had a new hard drive fitted, Win7 reinstalled and now can't find my Duo share folder with approx 80GB of music/photos on it. The router and Duo haven't changed at all so what is missing in my set-up? I have reinstalled RAID on the PC and already tried upgrading the firmware up to the latest version (4.1.10) but this hasn't helped.
What can I do? And the more 'layman' you can make any suggestions/instructions, the better - I'm not dumb but I'm no network guru and because my Duo has been so reliable since initial set-up, any knowledge I acquired at the time is pretty rusty.
Thanks (in hope and desperation)
Olly

- HERBIEOAspirantI think why the change was made was that when you create a user the private home share is automatically created with permissions allready set and can not be changed so no need to administrate so maybe thats the reason it was removed from frontview.

Thank you so much vandermerwe and StephenB for your support - although I had changed my windows logon/pw, I hadn't updated any windows credentials for the NAS IP address ( \\192.xxx.x.x ). As suggested, I went into Control Panel > User Accounts > Manage your credentials , and then "Add a Windows Credential" where I pasted my NAS IP address in the "Internet or Network Address" and the old NAS user and p/w in the other two fields.
After this, when I Browsed through RAID the 'lost' folder appeared, complete with 100GB of data. "Happy" doesn't begin to cover it!! So vandermerwe - I will purchase a 2nd drive and set up a regular backup, although I will need guidance/instructions. I doubt there is space in the cloud for my 100GB (without significant payment) so are the instructions the same for all NAS drives, and do you think I will find them under Forums > Backup > Frontview Backup? - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserCloud backup is possible (Crashplan Plus unlimited is presently $50/year for unlimited storage). However, getting that to work with your Duo is a bit tricky.
For 100 GB the most affordable option is to get a USB drive. You can connect the USB drive to the NAS and use Frontview, or you can connect it to your PC, and copy it over the network using a PC utility.
