NasDuo v2 Secure Erase
HI All,
Bit of weird one this (at least to me). I'm getting ready to sell my NasDuo v2 as I now have a more beefy model but when I complete a factory default and then select 'erase' during setup via Raidar its fails to provide any updates as to the erase a few hours in?
Erase informed me that for x2 3tb HDD's it would take approx 324 minutes (to be a taken with a pinch of salt, I know), once erase was set going I can see in Raidar that the NAS is erasing, after around 6 hours Raidar no longer shows the NAS at all. No response from web GUI or by pressing buttons on the NAS itself however I can still ping the DHCP IP of the device. The only thing I've been able to do is pull the power (which I thought would have locked the drives) but once the NAS had done a disk check and reboot, it was ready for setup. Setup completed, powered down and on again, new setup had held and was not in a factory default loop :?
Any idea on whether this is normal behavior for an erase and is there any way for me to check that a secure erase has been completed?

- fastfwdVirtuosoI couldn't get RAIDar's secure erase to work on my Pro -- same symptoms as you're reporting -- so I used Parted Magic (http://partedmagic.com/). Costs $4.99 and is worth every penny.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredWhat version of RAIDiator are you running?
- ndalbyAspirantThe latest version available for the NAS and the website.
Spoke with Netgear Live support and was advised that 'Factory default' would prevent recovery of any data....hoping the multiple resets (7 in total inc changing RAID levels with each reset) and x2 5hr attempted erases which have been completed will be enough. - StephenBGuru - Experienced User"latest" is not a very informing answer. It'd be more helpful if you stated the version.
In any event, a factory reset should be sufficient. If you actually want more than that, then the simplest thing to do is connect the disks to a windows system and zero them using vendor tools (seatools for seagate, lifeguard for western digital). - ndalbyAspirant

Unfortunately I was at work so couldn't say the exact version I had other than it was the latest version available for download for a v2 Duo (inc Raidar), which I thought would be listed on the site...sorry
My original plan was to format via Mac disk utility but my sata USB reader couldn't read the HDD's as anything other than 1tb HDD. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYour SATA USB reader is probably old then. A new one might work.
How old is your Mac? - ndalbyAspirant

Yeah the usb reader is an old version, Mac is late 2012 27" model.
Drive has now been sold. I think I should be safe after the multiple resets (around 7 in total inc changing RAID levels with each reset) and x2 5hr attempted erases...
Thanks for the suggestions though guys!
