Needing admin permission?

Hi all,

I'll start off by saying that I'm not knowledgable at all in the ways of the readynas, I have it for simple storage only and backup (which I haven't yet mastered, maybe I'll post about that another time!). Everything I know about it is what I've figured out by making mistakes and wasting time so if you can help me at all with this problem, please speak slowly and clearly for the dunce in the room :P

I have a readynas duo with a 2tb HDD, I'm yet to fill the second slot. I had a lot of files to add to the drive today so I thought I'd try something I'd never done and transfer them directly through a USB rather than onto my computer and then onto the NAS via wireless internet. Everything was peachy, worked like a dream, I'd changed the settings to automatically import to a folder that I'd named 'media imports' and it was great. Until I decided that wanted to move them into another folder. That's when I kept getting a message saying I needed admin permission. Firstly...I am the one and only admin and secondly, it didn't tell me how I needed to go about it. I tried logging into frontview and accessing the NAS directly through raidar. So far, nothing works.
If I try to access the USB folder that pops up when I insert the USB into the front of the NAS a little window pops up asking me to enter the username and password. I enter the details that I use to access frontview (I'm assuming it would be the same login?) and it says it's not recognised.

I don't know where to start because I need to move those files. I even tried to delete them thinking it was more worth my while spending the extra time sending it across the wireless network but I can't even do that!

I've had so much trouble with this NAS so far and I've finally got it up and running and doing what I want. Now that I'm getting more problems I'm dreadfully close to giving up on it all together.

Any help would be great, thanks very much.

Laura

  • If you have tried using the admin password for the frontview of the nas and still did not work. I would suggest that you contact support so that you will be assisted much better. Please change the subject of this post by adding the case # from support.
  • So I called support, they remotely accessed my machine, changed a couple of settings and then tried to update the firmware when it still wouldn't work.
The firmware was taking ages to install and then after playing around with it for a bit they've made it inaccessable. The IP address has changed and I can't get into it at all. He gave me some reset instructions that I don't really understand and I'm also a bit scared about doing so I just feel like they've rendered my NAS completely useless. I use it on a daily basis and I don't really know what to do now. Completely fed up :x
  • Are these the instructions they gave you? OS REINSTALL FOR DUO v2
If they are, the OS reinstall does not touch the data on the system but sets the network settings and admin login to default. If you have DHCP turn on for your network it should automatically find obtain an address. That should allow you to access it again.

If those aren't the instructions they gave you, could you let me know what instructions you have?
  • Hi there,

They were the instructions and I've literally just rebooted my system having done it. It now displays the correct IP address so at least I have access to it now!

Still, doesn't fix the inital problem.

EDIT: I've also just updated the firmware, still no solution. Tech support suggested that would fix it.
  • Sounds like it would be solvable by using SSH to remote in to the nas and changing permissions.
Although it requires a bit of linux knowledge.
