The red drives are specifically designed for NAS, the green drives are not. The red drives have less vibration, and elimination of NAS-unfriendly features (like aggressive head parking).

From a support point of view, both Western Digital and Netgear agree that the red drives work in ReadyNas. That isn't the case for WDC green drives.
