New Mac doesn't recognize existing NAS backup (says not enough space)

v 6.8 firmware, OS X

Use NAS for Time Machine backup (approx. 650GB in a 1.3 TB space). Just changed to new Mac (with same ADMIN ID) but keep getting message "Backup Failed- There isn't enough space on "ReadyNas". TM prefs says "588GB  of 1.3TB available but doesn't recognize previous BU.

Your Mac is trying to create a new backup. You could increase the TM quota or delete the old backup (if you need the old backup be sure to copy it some place first).

Is there any way to have the computer use/append the existing TM bu (I used this backup data to "restore" the new Mac so they have the same data) or is the existing TM BU "dead" to the new Mac? How would I delete the existing TM BU?

      Thanks, G

In the past, if I've done a bare metal restore from a TM backup volume, the new machine picks up and uses it going forward. So if that behavior has changed, then I'd consider it bug bug bug.
