NV+ And secure ftp access

Hi!
I've recently bought a nv+ with 8TB HDD in x-raid.
The "problem" i have is that i dont know how to password protect my ftp connection. And google have failed me ( or my research intelligence :) )i dont feel comfortable knowing that just typing in my ip adress will get you to all my files, and i've already copied my files to the nas so i'd hate to loose them in some way!
So, i think i set up the nas as "accessible" to everyone, i think you have three options here and i choose the first one just so it woul'd be easier in my home network enviroment, but should i have choosen the "middle" one instead and created some users ? If i do that now will i loose all my data?
Am thankful for all the help i can get.

    Hi

I am not sure how you are accessing FTP. I have the authentication mode set to "user" on the "standard file protocols" tab for FTP. Then FTP will not accept anonymous logons. You can set this without changing the permissions for the share (even if "everyone" has read/write access to the share, FTP will still require a logon/password).

If you are accessing FTP over the internet, I would suggest that you use "explicit FTP over TLS" - this has the benefit that your password/logon is sent encrypted. FileZilla supports this mode, and it works well with the NV+.
  • Hi!
Im mostly using ftp://x.x.x.x in the web browser. And i think everyone who knows my ip can just log in without password.
so if i cange it to user, and creates user for e.g 1234 with password 5678 i have too write this in everytime i log on to the ftp either over the internet or local network right?
Do you have a guide for me how i do this? :)

If the ftp authentication setting in "standard file protocols" is set to "user" then ftp connections will require a username that is configured in the NAS and the associated password. This username is not specific to FTP.

Windows explorer might present the windows login automatically (not sure about that, it certainly will with SMB)
