NV+ Drive order and Volume C dead
Hi,
I recently had to replace the power supply in my 4 bay ReadyNAS NV+, and in haste i removed the drives fearing I would damage them.
However, they got mixed up and were not labelled, so when i powered on (psu worked perfectly) my data is there, but it says Volume C is dead. (i assume this means the raid is just gone not the data, which is worrying as id like the redundancy)
Will it be possible to restore the volume if the drives are put back in sequence?
its 4 2tb drives with only about 300gb free space (2.3 now since the other drive is being seen a lone drive)
I read somewhere you can use the logs to trace which disk belongs in which slot but im unsure as to rebuilding the array for fear of wiping data i have taken years to accumulate.
Hopefully there is a solution :)
Regards

- vandermerweMasterI don't have an answer for you, but some advice; whatever you do while waiting for an answer, do not remove or add any drives to the NAS while it is on.
I think if your volume was redundant then you should be able to get your volume back if you can figure out the order. In fact I thought that disk order did not matter unless a volume was degraded. Was your volume ok before you replaced the power supply?
Are all the disks the same model?
Do you have a downloaded copy of the entire log? I think mdstat.log may have information about the disks in the array. - dmr1AspirantI dont think it was degraded.
I did the whole "download all logs" and there is no sign of that file, is it elsewhere?
All the drives are the same model but one is a different version (later model) but all were working fine until idiot here didnt label the drives. - vandermerweMasterI don't know. I wouldn't be able to advise you on what to look for even if you could.
It is possible to ssh in and get the same mdstat information. There is one person on the forums who may respond and help you to identify which disk is which. I don't know whether mdstat has detailed enough information about serial numbers which you would need.
