NV+ hangs while downloading torrents

Hi!
I have NV+ with three 1.5Tb Seagate ST31500341AS drives installed in x-raid. I started using default torrent client, but it was quite buggy and was randomly loosing downloads, so i installed Transmission add-on. After that it worked fine for some time, but then it began to freeze during download. I tried to download big files from NAS and upload them to it and it worked fine, but when i start the torrent client (with approximately 70 torrents - active, passive and paused) storage hangs approximately in one hour. I thought, that this is a memory issue and installed new Kingston KVR333X64SC25/512 memory module, but the situation haven't change - now it hangs even when there was ~200mb of free memory (i monitored it with top via ssh). I checked /var/log/messages and couldn't find any error, i also checked the logs in web interface, but there was no errors. By the way, it hangs in quite strange manner - it even don't answer on ping. I'm using RAIDiator 4.1.7 [1.00a043] - afaik it's the last firmware version for this device.
Can anybody give me an advice, what to do or where to look to see, what's happening with my storage?

  • I changed memory to Kingston Technology KVR333X64SC25/1G chip, but the problem persists (maybe with less frequency). I still can't find any evidence in logs - they're just clean (i mean - no errors). I also tried to play with /proc/sys/vm/swappiness and echoed "100" there - still no luck.
    Any comments?
  • Try re-installing the firmware the hard way. Switch it off, insert straightened paperclip and push reset on the rear, keep it pressed, switch it on. Keep your eye on the drive leds. As soon as they blink once let go of the reset switch. It will then start the re-install procedure.
  • Do i understand correctly that such re-installation will delete the information on NAS?
  • Nope, only if you keep holding it until the drive leds flash a seccond time, then your in trouble !.
  • I've reinstalled the firmware as you told me. I'll try to run Transmission and post the results here. Thanks for help!
