NV+ V2 not booting through after reset [24963130]

[case 24963130 just opened]

Hi,

I'm very new to ReadyNAS and got a used NV+ V2 purchased 04/2012 with 2 x WD30EZGX (slot 1 and slot 3, it was offline for some months) and I had to erase all data.

But first time powered it was stucked with something like "ERR:...updating addon" for hours.

Then I used the boot menu for a factory reset: Thereafter I saw it with newest RAIDar and wanted to perform a X-RAID2 setup. It startet and also show a "Updating FW" but then it was stucked again with "ERR:Could not p / Booting..." for hours.

Then I did the factory reset again und wiped the discs with RAIDar setup. This took some 14h and ended ok. Another factory reset ended also in the "ERR:Could not p / Booting..." after showing the "updating fw". I took out the disc of slot 3 and tried again, same message and stucked. I changed the discs from slot 1 to slot 3 - same behaviour after reset and RAIDar setup for X-RAID2, not booting through. Another try with RAID-0 ended the same.

I also used "Skip discs tests" with boot menu, same.

During "ERR:Could not p / Booting ..." RAIDar does not find the NV+ V2. A http-access to the known ip-adress is also not possible.

How to proceed?
Is the a chance to rescue my NAS?
Is it a firmware issue?
How can i update to actual RAIDiator V5.3.11 manually?

I am glad to read your answers.

Greetz,

bont

  • It seems that your WD30EZRX drives are not compatible with the NV+ v2. You may check it here: http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/20641

    Check if your NAS is whether an NV+v2 or NV+v1 on this link: http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how ... -or-nv-v2/

    Check if your NAS is detected on RAIDar without any drives inside it.

    Check the WD30EZRX drives you have using the WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostics for Windows: http://support.wdc.com/product/download ... =612&sid=3 -- I suggest you to run an Extended test
  • Hi,

    the NAS is a NV+ V2 as already posted.

    The NV+ V2 is recognized without disks in RAIDar showing "ERR: No disks detected!"

    The two WD30EZRX were working well for 2 years in a private not oftenly used environment: if they are not stated in the hcl it does imho not mean that they are not working well in a NAS.

    I will check extended the disks with the stated WD-software but I don't think that that seems to be the matter but a firmware issue.

    What firmware is running in the NAS?

    How did you erase the data?

    May you please tell me how to check which fw is running?

    I erased the disks with RAIDar after factory reset via setup button instead of RAID configuration.
  • check if your device can still be detected using the raidar.
  • Perhaps that helps for your further diagnosis:

    Via bootmenu I access the technical support and telnet to the NAS and logged in. I see:

    -----------------------
    /dev # ls | grep sd
    sda
    sda1
    sda2
    sda3
    sdb
    sdb1
    sdb2
    sdb3
    /dev # cat /proc/partitions
    major minor #blocks name

    31 0 1536 mtdblock0
    31 1 128 mtdblock1
    31 2 6144 mtdblock2
    31 3 16384 mtdblock3
    31 4 106496 mtdblock4
    8 0 2930266584 sda
    8 1 4194304 sda1
    8 2 524288 sda2
    8 3 2925545912 sda3
    8 16 2930266584 sdb
    8 17 4194304 sdb1
    8 18 524288 sdb2
    8 19 2925545912 sdb3
    ----------------------------------

    So the two disks are well recognized with 3 partitions.

    And the /var/log/enclosure.log shows:

    ------
    fan!!1!!status=ok::descr=1365RPM
    disk!!1!!status=ok::descr=Channel 1: WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0, 2794 GB
    disk!!2!!status=ok::descr=Channel 2: WDC WD30EZRX-00MMMB0, 2794 GB
    disk!!3!!status=not_present
    disk!!4!!status=not_present
    model!!0!!mode=home::descr=ReadyNAS NV+ v2::arch=arm1::jbod=1
    ----
  • Well, some magic happend in the meantime: Now RAIDar shows "5.3.11" and the screen shows "Resync C: 57,8%" and I have access to the dashboard having the initial setup wizard.

    Many thanks to mdgm!
