NV+ v2 permanently busy with ??????

I have a NV+2 with 4 identical 3tb disks and all has been well until last week. I tried to connect to this NAS and I could not. The front panel of the NAS shows constant activity.

In the end I pressed the on/off button and no reaction........... In the end I had to pull the plug and restart the NAS. PHEW!! it came back online and I do all the check to see that all is OK. Normal response times, the 4 disks report zero errors....... all is GREEN.

About 2 hours later the NAS returned to unresponsive, disks spinning like heck, and indicator on front panel flashing manically.

I have repeated this cycle some 3 times with the same result.

Please help....... I cannot see anything that spell trouble in any GUI available

I had it on spin down but but removed it just before this problem occurred. What is the significance of that? As for the second part I have no clue...... where and how can I find it please?

    Thanks
  • I'd try disabling ReadyDLNA - might clear your problem.

Otherwise install SSH and HTOP and have a look what's consuming all the resources.

Thanks for the advice....... I disabled ReadyDLNA and it went away "thinking" for quite some time. Unfortunately it is still doing the same thing.

I will be getting a few disks today and I think I will stick a single new disk in this NAS and see what happens.

Just for the fun of it, my 2nd identical NAS started kicking out a growing number of errors. So I have some rebuilding ahead.

  • Don't forget to reboot :-)

Seriously, install SSH. Otherwise you're just shooting in the dark. The web interface is woefully inadequate when things don't work as expected.

I will have to get someone who knows about SSH to move this ahead as I have not the foggiest.

    Thanks for the info

As a test, I moved all the disks from the problematical NAS (NAS1) to an identical NAS (NAS2). The problem went ALONG with the disks. Is it safe to deduct that it is not the physical NAS with a problem but rather something on the disks causing the issue?

OK so I went to: http://www.readynas.com/?p=4203 and downloaded the ARM version
I installed it through the add-on menu item on the web-interface.
I then get the following message: The add-on was partially installed. To complete the installation, you must restart your system. Would you like to restart now.
    I restarted
I go to check add-ons and this new installed add-on is nowhere to be seen.

I have done this procedure on both the problematical NAS and another identical NAS with the same response.

    Am I doing something wrong?

There is no web UI for this add-on.

SSH in as user 'root'. The password will initially set to the 'admin' password.
  • A friend of mine is on IT and he has a ReadyNAS too. I explained that the above problem follows the Disks. What I mean by that is........The problem started in NAS1 and when I moved all 4 disks to NAS2, the same problem continued.

Here is my friend's reply back to me:
Since the problem follows the disks I wonder if you don't have a similar problem to what I had - where the NAS configuration directory became "damaged".
It's probably sensible to ask the forum if the config directory can be refreshed without losing the data stored on the NAS

    Does it make sense?
