Well, seeing as how I still haven't heard anything back, it's getting very frustrating. :-x
It seems to be that there must be some kind of bug that is triggered by increasing the size of the volume after replacing the drives.
I've never had a problem running the disk check on reboot in the past, it only blew up after I resized
