Old Readynas Duo does not power up after re-inserting original drive
I have an old ReadyNAS Duo RND2150 with a single Seagate 500G HDD (S/N: 1VB385RV000BA) probably with the latest firmware and RaidDar. I have been using 2x WD Black 2TB in x-RAID for about 6 month...

I may not be buying the 102 just yet. I am bidding for a second hand RND2150 (same model) on ebay. That may make the migration of the 2x WD 2TB X-Raid drives easier. Yesterday, I searched the web for any software that can backup the contents of the WD drives in the meantime. I found that R-Linus (a freeware) is the only one that can reproduce the same directory tree and file names in the drive. So I will do a backup asap.
I tried to ring up Netgear Australia yesterday but I was always put to a voice mail. Can I actually order the circuit board from Australia or the US?

We don't sell replacement motherboards.
Also support is for the original purchaser from an authorised reseller. There will be no NETGEAR support for a unit you purchased off eBay.
You do need to make sure that the Duo you are bidding for is also a v1. See http://www.rnasguide.com/2012/01/09/how-to-tell-whether-i-have-a-duo-v1-or-duo-v2-or-nv-v1-or-nv-v2/
The v2 is a very different product and you can't move your disks to that.

Linux Reader is also free, and can read the contents of the duo's data disk. http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/

I actually saw your response in another post and Linux-reader was the first freeware that I tried. It saw that my ReadyNAS Duo v1 (RND2150) 500G disk has a Ext3 partition and two RAW partitions. It could read the Ext3 partition but treated the RAW partitions as unformatted. Hence couldn't proceed any further.
On the other hand, it took R-Linus 4.5 hours to scan my 2TB disk and I could see the entire directory tree, folders and file names. I reckon that it will take almost as long to recover the files to another drive on the PC. I'll do it tomorrow and report again.

The v2 is a very different product and you can't move your disks to that.Based on the useful guide that you gave me, I am almost 100% sure that the one on ebay is a v1. The seller posted a few screenshots which show the following:
- Same Frontview page as my v1
- Same physical rear view as a v1
- Host name: nas-02-99-2A
- Serial no.: IVB38ARW000C6
- Raidiator firmware version: 4.1.14
Do the host name and serial no. positively identified it as a v1? His v1 should be about the same age as mine which has been out of warranty for a couple of years. I'm eager to bid for it but first I'll back up Drive no. 1. Please see my reply to StephenB on the use of R-Linus.

Anything running 4.1.x firmware is a v1. Anything running 5.x.x is a v2. Anything running 4.2.x is an intel-based legacy NAS.
Frontview looks quite similar with 4.1.x and 4.2.x. The dashboard on the v2 is very different (both from 4.x and 6.x firmware).
Linux Reader should be able to read the data disk if you were using xraid - it can't read flexraid. Also it won't access the data volume from the parity disk. Usually the parity disk is disk 2, but there are some cases where it is disk 1.
However, you are getting your data off, so this is academic.

Indeed, I was successful in saving all the data files to another HDD in the PC using R-Linus in about 2 days. I did each folder one at a time. The backup rate was about 1GB per minute and I have about 800GB of data. After some initial trial and error with R-Linus, it discovered a drive entity called "c-c" which appeared to be the combination of all 4 Linus partitions into one. I could mark any files or folders I wanted to recover in "c-c". No file has failed to be recovered. Don't use the files found in a partition as part of those files may reside outside the partition and you will get file recovery errors. Please pass this onto any member who is looking for data retrieval in a X-RAID situation when the ReadyNAS Duo is dead.
