OS6 now works on x86 Legacy WARNING: NO NTGR SUPPORT!
Update: It is now unofficially possible using NTGR images to update legacy hardware to os6.X
See Post #3, for directions to install 6.2.1 on x86 Ultra and Pro Models. (ARM NOT SUPPORTED by this OS)
Be forewarned, this requires a SYSTEM WIPE and likely voids any warranty support from NTGR
Supported so far: pro 2/4/6, ultra 2/4/6, old pro / Pioneer Pro, 2100v2
Not Supported: NVX and 2100v1
Thanks go out to "HomeBrew Anonymous" for making this possible.
Update 2: A firmware image to downgrade back to 4.2.26 is now available. See this thread. While this downgrade should get you a working system again on the supported firmware, be forewarned this requires a SYSTEM WIPE and NetGear also does not provide support for this downgrade. If you have issues seek help on these forums.
Original Post/Gripes
I have been reading these forums since Monday's announcement and there has been a resounding "ooof" regarding the fact the Ultras and Pros are unsupported for future OS improvements.
To clear the air: it would appear Netgear will never support os6 on past hardware. I have almost come to grips with this, and at least they have been open and honest with their forward direction and aren't stringing us along. viewtopic.php?f=138&t=70131
The upside is our devices still work and are mostly stable and eventually we can upgrade to a new shell that has os6 support, but in the meantime our $500-1000 investment is unable to take advantage of modern features we all desire.
I don't think I can add a poll here at RN forums, but I would like to garner support for a 100% unsupported home brew of the os6 on Pro6 units.
If we get enough support perhaps a talented member(s) here would help release a homebrew of sorts.
The 3 main caveats are:
1. Netgear will never be held responsible/your warranty is void
2. A format is required (new FS and OS)
3. Data loss is highly possible
If you are still interested please post a reply to this thread.
mdgm and I have decided that its time to lock this thread. So please do post any new OS6 on Legacy issues on their own threads.

- IridabikeAspirantHad a power cut and now my Pro 6 is stuck checking Root FS and wont boot. Its been like this for two days. Any ideas? If I select reinstall OS from the maintenance mode will it help?
Ignore this. OS reinstall sorted it. - ATCISTutorConfiguration basics:

I have been slowly migrating all my data from another Pro 6 running RAIDiator v4.2.24 to this one running OS v6.1.1. Tonight I finished migrating all my multimedia files to include archived TiVo recordings. I followed the instructions found here - http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/23070 but could not get past step 6. I have entered my TiVo's Media Access Key like 20 times, but the status never changes from unauthorized to whatever it is supposed to be.
Anyone else had any luck with this? Helpful links, suggested workarounds, command line hacks, etc. welcomed. . .
Thanks in advance! - arnomcAspirantOn my legacy Ultra2 I had false CPU temp readings (serrated, like a wood saw, saying the cpu went up close to 70°C degrees).
Then I upgraded from 6.1.1 to 6.1.2 and I noticed an nice improvement in the CPU temperature reading that doesn't cause anymore the fan to ramp up to it's 2200rpm maximum (this is not documented in the release notes ; understandable if it didn't occur on ReadyNAS 3xx/5xx).
The inconsistent noise level was really annoying!! So I am now a happy OS6 user :woot: I didn't had to apply any command line fix for the temp reading neither fan speed the fan.

So no words of of wisdom from the community then? :( - EtzAspirantWondering if I upgrade my Ultra2 to OS6 I definately will loose NTGR support...does that mean HW support also?
If HW itself fails or PSU those should be still eglible for replacement do they? - tkapinAspirantIf someone have web interface issues with 6.1.1 and 6.1.2 OS like freezing, system is offline etc.., try to disable Antivirus on your NAS.
I was same huge problems, so i was move OS down to 6.0.8 whitch works fine, again up to 6.1.2 where OS freeze.
So after few tests with different speeds on LAN ports, still without logic success i was try to disable antivirus .. now everything looks much better.
Additional thing .. Plex,
if you have a manually downloaded Plex from their web, and installed to NAS, OS ask you to update some updated version V2 soon. Update never ends with success. So solution is easy, uninstall your plex and look at Available Apps, there is updated ready to install Plex server, this one works like a charm :D - platini76Aspirantbut antivirus is default active or disactive?

All of my legacy ReadyNAS devices (I have three) that I have converted to OS 6; the AntiVirus Service has been disabled by default. . . - platini76Aspirantso it was not my problem, I have freezes also with no antivirus... :(
- troy14AspirantCan anyone help me downgrade my Ultra 2 from 6.1.2 back to 4.2? I tried using the instructions from http://netgear.nas-central.org/wiki/OS6_on_Legacy_x86 and it seems everything goes okay until I try to upload the firmware....I am uploading 4.2.24 and it says "File uploaded is not ReadyNASOS" and won't proceed.
