Periodic "Error communicating with UPS 'UPS' ()." Error

After installing a UPS I get frequent email notifications with "Error communicating with UPS 'UPS' ().", with a paired "Communication with UPS 'UPS' () is OK." arriving shortly after. When I left on holiday the errors stopped, and began again when I returned (even when I'm not actively using the NAS). I suspect it has something to do with disc sleeping, as the disc waking is the only thing I can think of that might be happening so often and yet not when I'm at home. What can I do to fix this?

  • We're hopful that this issue is fixed in 6.8.1 Beta 1, which is posted in the Beta section of the community.  Please report whether this works for you if you have a chance to try it.

    What firmware are you running?

Some UPS systems aren't very well-behaved - some of my cyberpowers have generated these messages in the past, and one actually interfered with startup.  They have put in some fixes in the newer firmware for this, so maybe try 6.8.0 first, and see if that makes any difference.  If it doesn't, post back here and I'll poke Netgear to see if they're able to follow up with you.

Hi Stephen, thanks for the reply. I didn't see that 6.8.0 had been released, the Check for Updates button on the admin page didn't report a new version was available. I'll give installing that a go and let you know if it helps or not.

    Hello Simie,

6.8.0 firmware version is not yet available on Readynas download server, you will need to download the firmware from our support site and manually upload the firmware to the NAS.

That explains why I didn't see it in the updater, thanks.

Initial results from upgrading the firmware last night appear positive - I haven't had the UPS message yet, whereas before it was a daily occurance. Thanks for the help guys.

What should I do from here?
