So the second backup has now completed this time rsync first changed the share permission from guest to root while the backup was running but this time instead upon completion instead of an unknown numeric as in first copy, the owner and group was left as root. Now the nas has started on the 3 backup and the share owner has been changed from guest to 65534 and the group to the same.
Not knowing if this behavior is expected, seems bizarre to me. especially as there are no users or groups established on the target nas for these backups. it almost seems like the silly thing just makes up owner and groups.
But my million dollar questions is in the 312 if I change the owner and group back to guest does it ripple though all of the sub folders and files and set the permissions to match?
