thanks, understanding the nature of the problem helps and as long as this is a one-time problem fixable by changing the group and owner , I can live with the behavior as these rsyncs are a one-time event. And for the tip about the resync reset ownership option, didn't see it and I think I will try it as I' m not (yet) rely on the 312.
