The only reason not to hot add a disk is if you are trying to preserve data on the disk, or if you are about to boot into factory.
If you are adding a new disk it's always better to hot add it, whether as an additional disk or replacing a smaller or broken disk,
If you are planning to move all the 1.5 tb disks to the nv at once then you'd want to remove them from the nv+ Off, and add them in the same order to the nv while off.
You won't be able to move one at a time and preserve data on them.
