Port mapping on Apple Time Capsule for Photos II?

You will likely need to port forward port 8086 to your ReadyNAS.

Unfortunately, I'm at a loss for how to do that. When I open up the Apple AirPort Utility, I go to "Internet" and then to "Port Mapping."

Then I can add a service and there are options for Public UDP Port(s), Public TCP Port(s), Private IP Address, Private UDP Port(s), and Private TCP Port(s). It requires me to select a Service from this list:

Personal Web Sharing
Remote Logon - SSH
FTP Access
Apple Remote Desktop
Remote Apple Events
Printer Sharing
POP Mail
POP Mail with SSL
IMAP Mail

How can I find out what service Photos II uses? And, once I select the service where do I enter 8086? It seems like it wants me to enter ports for every option except for the Private IP Address, which is defaulting to an unused TCP address on my LAN.

The Public Ports would be the ones used when people remotely connect via the internet and the Private Ports would be the local one used when on the same LAN as the NAS. You want to enter 8086 for all of those. For the Private IP address you want to enter the static IP address of your NAS.

Perhaps "personal web sharing" would be the best fit.

mdgm, thanks for the additional information. I did what you suggested. Everything works fine now because I'm on the LAN. Tomorrow I'll check it from the office and see if it's good. I'll let you know.

It is not necessary to choose a service - those are there to help setup common port forwarding configurations. Just fill in the external & internal port numbers and the target IP address

Ah, that makes more sense. My AEBS isn't my main router, so I can't look into these things so easily.

The service option also helps with the setup of Bonjour/mDNS when advertising services on the WAN or in a network with different subnets, but not something most home users require so can be ignored

Good news. Setting all the ports (private and public UDP and TCP) to 8086 did the trick. (I also selected Personal Web Sharing as the service because it seemed like the pull-down wanted me to select something.) But I tried it from my office today and it worked fine.

One thing that may just be a communication speed problem is that several times I received Flash errors ("Flash crashed") when clicking between photos rapidly. When I clicked and then waited a second or two before moving to the next, it was error-free.

Port 8086 is the default port for Photos II.
