I see... I do not really want to toss the unit if possible, I would like to fix it.
Can you please point me on how to isolate the problem?
The small red LED1 on the motherboard is normally lit, or it is generic for a failure ?
What would you do in my place to try to revive the unit ?
and while I am at it the 500 unit would give me more bandwith ?
I am the sole user of the unit and it is used just for my DVD rips and family movies.
thank you

That is normal.

The only practical steps I can think are to
(a) try the other ethernet jack
(b) try replacing the PSU

The 526X and 626x are faster than the pro, but with a single user and gigabit ethernet you are mostly limited by ethernet. If you do real-time streaming, the 526X/626X can transcode HD in real time, which is something the pro can't do.

Thank you for the input. Tried the other ethernet port. Does not show in the router DHCP table.
So the only thing left is to try and switch the PSU. I am ordering one and will update on it.
Regarding the transcoding. I never do that. Shall I ?
I use the playstation as my media server and in the very rare ocassions I watch on the TV screen I might use my worktation with Universal Media server to do the transcoding (I know there is more bandwith consumtion on the LAN) but it's OK.
In terms of reading speed from the NAS, the 300 500 and 6oo series are similar ?
I do not use any plugins or programs (like plex).

It's most useful if you are using plex while away from home. In those cases you often do run into bandwidth issues on the connection path to the NAS.
If your playback works well without it, then there's no reason to turn it on.
It is a plex feature, so if you aren't a plex user it doesn't apply to you anyway.

Well, on a gigabit network the higher-end 526X and 626X ReadyNAS are faster than the network.
Per SmallNetbuilder reviews:
RN316 Read Speed (RAID-5) 97.9 MB/sec
RN516 Read Speed (RAID-5) 105.3 MB/sec
RN626X Read Speed (RAID-5) 110.9 MB/sec (gigabit) 668.8 MB/sec (10 gigabit)
They haven't reviewed the RN526X, so they don't have published results for that.
Note that even if your clients are gigabit, if you connect them and the RN526X/RN526X to a 10 gigabit switch you will get higher performance when multiple devices are using the NAS at the same time.

I was in hiatus because I waited for the Seasonic PSU to be delivered (newegg canada).
Thank you for the 10GB information. - usefull to know and about transcoding in plex (i dont use it).
Regarding the PSU source swap.
I conected the new PSU but the same problem (just having Readynas lit and not booting and loading the OS).
So it's not the PSU . I hae a spare now.
I need to try something else.
I remember when I switched to OS6 I was rescued by mdgm and I had to do the re-load of the OS from an USB key and only one that I had from an old SONY bravia worked. I tried 6 other USB keys (I am using the formating option each time when I write the OS on them)
The problem I think I might have.
That old USBS key is just a 64 MB key. The new OS6 is bigger than that and does not fit that USB key.
On the NAS unit I have 6.6.0 beta 2 T117 (that I updated through the normal loading of the firmware from the UI).
What previous version shall I try loadto reflas the OS that will fit this liited 64 MB (it should be les thn 61 MB - there are some loader files that need to be on the key)
I assume I shall start with an empty disk (remove the ones that have the data).
Shall I downgrade to the 4 version and use the same steps or I can try directly an OS6 version that is smaller than 61 MB and then normally upgrade with the final version ?
Thank you for the answers in the forum - it makes a world of a difference in brand trust.
