Pro 6 disk replacement yields unexpected size
Hi!
I have an old Pro 6 with current firmware and a single FlexRaid 2 volume.
I have replaced a 1TB drive with a 3TB drive in order to get a bit more space.
I went from:
3 x 1 TB
2 x 1.5 TB
1 x 2 TB
to
2 x 1 TB
2 x 1.5 TB
1 x 2 TB
1 x 3 TB
Expansion took place without errors. IIRC it expanded from 5.5TB to 6.0TB which I don't understand, I would have expected 6TB to 7TB. I seem to misunderstand the way FlexRaid 2 works.
I would be grateful if somebody could enlighten me.
Thanks a lot in advance,
Gunnar

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredDo you mean X-RAID2?
Have you tried a reboot, wait 5-10 minutes then reboot once more if expansion hasn't started? - gunnarkAspirantYes I meant X-RAID 2, sorry.
Yes have done multiple reboots. After the last reboot, nothing noteworthy happened anymore.
Expansion had taken place (successfully, according to WUI), only the sizes are wrong (I think). - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredCan you go to support.netgear.com, click on the Contact Us link and select the email option.
Then when you have a case open, attach your logs zip file (Status > Logs > Download all logs) and post your case number here? - gunnarkAspirantWill do tomorrow when I have access to the device.
Thanks for your help! - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserFrontview reports space in TiB (1024 multiples) not TB (1000)
In TiB units, the expansion is from 5.45 to 6.36 (not accounting for overhead and OS space). This is the same as 6 TB to 7 TB, just different units.
Is that you are seeing? - gunnarkAspirantNo, I am seeing something like 59xx GB IIRC, I cannot currently say exactly, will check tomorrow.
- gunnarkAspirantmdgm: Support case is: 23663399
StephenB: Frontview says 5998 GB
Thanks for your help! - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredO.K.
Disk 2 is bad and disk 1 may be failing.
Do you have an up to date backup? - gunnarkAspirantNope and no means to do one
- gunnarkAspirantHave a spare 1TB disk, though
