Very confusing. I seem to remember reading the warranty was transferable but most of the posts I see now indicate warranty transfer is not available. I will note there are posts that refer to this link http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1160/kw/transfer%20ownership/r_id/100109#transfer (before it was edited to indicate ReadyNAS warranties were not transferable - such as http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=49408&p=298438) because at that time the link did not include the disclaimer "(Applies to Home products only. Does not apply to ReadyNAS storage products)".
Yodah stated in 2006 you can transfer the warranty of a ReadyNAS NV - even without a receipt ("Without receipt, we can go by ship date to our reseller.") -> http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=5314&p=30734 and in 2008 also stated clearly the NV warranty can be transferred here -> http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=15782&p=83139 "Unless you bought extended warranty for the NV, the warranty is good for 1 year. It's transferable but I believe we stopped shipping NVs over a year ago." And again here -> http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=2085&p=12242, "Just got some good news for those concerned about warranty transfers. Infrant will now warranty the ReadyNAS up to 1 year from the original date of purchase, regardless of whether the owner is the original purchaser. We do request that if you sell your box that you notify support@infrant.com so that we can update the registration record. (Hey we listen to you guys!)"
In 2008 Chirpa seemed to suggest warranty transfer of an NV+ was OK -> http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16769&p=89275 "Q2. How do I go about transferring the warranty (or having the previous owner transfer the warranty).", "As long as the new owner has the original invoice showing purchase date, I believe they are fine." And in 2009 Chirpa reaffirmed one users faith in Netgear by providing above and beyond support for a second-hand ReadyNAS here -> http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=33547#p184473
Of course none of this this has anything to do with the newer models but I feel it is important to note it was at one point available.
More important, see how Jedi involvement spurred interest and loyalty in the ReadyNAS brand? See the buy-in when users realized they had an advocate within the Netgear/Infrant organization that 'had their back'?
THAT is what made the ReadyNAS succeed.

Thanks - you have confirmed to me a long term reason why having a ReadyNAS was a good investment.
