Problems accessing over network

Hi

Just got my readynas duo which is working fine when connected via the supplied yellow ethernet cable direct to my router.

As soon as I use a different network cable (standard straight through) or connect to an ethernet switch connected to the router I can't make a connection.

Router IP 192.168.1.1
PC 192.168.1.2
NAS 192.168.1.2

I can't ping, connect using IE or use the setup or browse buttons in the Raidar util work.

I have the latest firmware (4.1.8) and Raidar 4.1.3

As my router (Linksys WRT160NL) allows the direct connection I can't see the issue being there (unless I have missed a setting) and the switch (Linksys SE2500) is not managed so should just pass the signal straight through. I know the switch is working as I can connect the pc and access the internet.

I have spoken to the network engineers at work who say it should work. Is there something special about the supplied ethernet cable or is there some other setting I'm not aware of?

Thanks in advance

  • Please verify your IP settings - the PC and NAS IP address should *not* be the same as you have described
  • sorry -

    Router IP 192.168.1.1
    PC 192.168.1.2
    NAS 192.168.1.3
  • If the connection fails with a different cable, then immediately that cable must be suspect.

Re. the switch - are you using the same cable that fails when used to replace the original netgear cable? If so, further suggests that cable is at fault
  • Have tried 2 cables now, a think I have a couple more to try in a box somewhere. There is nothing different about the cable in the box??
  • sorry, should have read 2 cables. I know the cables work as my squeezebox duet and pc can both connect via the cable/ethernet switch
  • Thanks for advice and help, I have sorted the problem.

I'm not sure what the issue was but I tried a couple of connection variations again but this time I rebootet the NAS drive each time I changed the network connection which fixed the problem.

i think the main issue is the lack of any basic manual with the device. The pdf goes straight in to configuring it once it is connected to the network.

I've worked with network devices before and they have always renegotiated themselves back on to the network when being disconnected. Oh well, we live and learn.

Just got to wait for the sqeezebox server to work through 15,000 tracks before I can sit back and enjoy thr fruits of my labour :)
