Problems connecting to shares at Windows startup

I have a ReadyNAS Duo, which has 4 shares set up on it.

I have a PC, running W7 and access the shares from that, where I have used the "Map to Network Drive" option to allocate each to a drive letter.

The odd thing is that on booting up the PC then 2 of the shares connect fully while 2 of them do not. They appear in Explorer, but, have an X by them. If I click on the item then it connects and all is well.

This is a slight pain as one of the offenders holds my EMail local files and I quite often forget to connect it before firing up Thunderbird!

Anybody got any suggestions for how to get all shares to connect when W7 starts?

:? :? :?

  • I have created a similar setup, but only two shares, and I've not noticed this issue. I can try a few more shares when I get to that PC. I have a Duo v1 and NV+ v2.
What unit and software version are you running?

Have you tried adding the credentials under "Manage Network Passwords" (open win7 start menu and start typing)?
  • Thanks for reply

    This is what unit reports....

    Hostname: nas-B6-D0-B1
    Model: ReadyNAS Duo [X-RAID]
    Serial: 24M297710079F
    Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.10 [1.00a043]
    Memory: 256 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
    IPv4 address:: 192.168.1.6

I had a look at Credentials Manager and, initially, it looked promising. However, when I look in there it already has an entry for:
    \\NAS-B6-D0-B1\
    admin
    ********

    which is the NAS.

If I try to add an entry for one of my shares (\\NAS-B6-D0-B1\Media) then it doesn't add anything else!

I deleted the existing entry and put in details for \\NAS-B6-D0-B1\Media, but, I ended up with the entry as above looks like it only deals with the username/password for NAS rather than shares on it.

Do you still have the issue if you update to 4.1.12?

Just updated to 4.1.12 as still same issue, I'm afraid!

When W7 starts up I get a message "Could not connect to all network devices" - or similar.

Does it work any different if you use the I.P. rather than the hostname?
  • I just checked a machine already logged on but both shares had a red cross. Once a share was clicked, it changed to access the unit. Still using the device name not an IP. This could be more a Win issue if it doesn't get a response quickly enough or something. Not sure really.
  • Well, it seems to be sorted!!!! Not sure what it was, but, I did the following.....

Made 2 shares "Available Offline" and then changed it back
Deleted the entry in Credentials Manager and added on using the IP address - with it like this, I was having trouble accessing files on NAS
Deleted the entry in Credentials Manager and added one like before (using device name)
Disconnected shares from W7, re-booted and re-connected them

Amongst that lot, there were plenty of re-boots!

Anyway, the top and bottom of it is that I now fire up the PC and all 4 shares are connected fine - I am a happy bunny, now!

Thanks for all advice and suggestions
  • Great!

Have you allowed the ReadyNas to go to any sleep mode or powerdown cycle? I just wonder whether the issue will re-appear later in a similar mysterious way...
