Pulled wrong drive to replace, then shut down.... HELP!
ReadyNAS NV+ V1, only two drives installed: 1)500GB Seagate, 2)1TB Seagate
Drive 1, the older 500GB Seagate, was nearing failure with growing bad sectors. I ordered a 1TB WD RED as a replacement. When I went to replace the bad drive today, doing a HOT SWAP, I pulled out the newer 1TB Seagate in slot 2 by accident and then inserted my new 1TB WD RED in its place. Initialization began immediately, within seconds I realized my mistake, and without thinking I powered down the unit by holding down the power button. DUMB, I know.
I then put everything back in place - the 1TB Seagate back in slot 2 - and powered back up, but got BOOT ERROR - Bad Firmware. Then began a game of musical discs, in attempt to get one of my original discs to boot. For an hour all I got were Bad Firmware and Bad Disc errors.
After a break of several hours, I tried again -- this time, just the 1TB Seagate (good disc) in slot 2 (where it was originally), no other discs. Powered up... Booting... Quota Check... 100%! Looks like all data is still there on this disc.
So my question now is... can I just put my new WD RED into slot 1, HOT SWAP STYLE, and it will sync drive 2 onto drive 1? Do I need to reformat the RED first, since I already had stuck it in slot 2 and it started to initialize before I powered down? Im worried about another scewup...
Thanks!

- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredIf you add the disk while the NAS is on (hot swap) it will be wiped and added to the array.
Having said that now would be a good time to make sure you have an up to date backup. - jazzmenriceAspirantThank you, mdgm.
I will follow your advice and perform a usb backup before hot swapping.
(I do have up to date backup to ReadyVault - probably one of the few suckers still using Netgear's overpriced backup system but at least it works headlessly from the NAS.)
Thanks again for the quick reply!
