ReadyDLNA not compatible with Xbox after RAIDiator 4.1.8

I was on RAIDiator 4.1.6 and everything was working fine wrt streaming to Xbox360 using DLNA.

After upgrading to 4.1.8, I ran in to the problem where my ReadyNAS Duo could not be seen by the Xbox unless I restarted the ReadyDLNA service at which point the device appears in the Xbox device list briefly, but the connection fails when selecting it.

I've tried reinstalling ReadyDLNA using the 1.0.21.bin download and downgrading to 1.0.19.bin. Short of downgrading my RAIDiator version back to 4.1.6, I'm not sure what I can do.

Is everyone else ok streaming from 4.1.8 on the Duo to the Xbox 360?

Note that streaming to Windows Media Player in Windows 7 over DLNA seems fine.

  • Ya I'm having the same problem. The XBox only sees the NAS after a reboot. If then select the NAS through the 360 I get a message stating that streaming is only supported from Window Media Player 11, Zune and a couple of others. After that I don't see the NAS again until I reboot it.

The only work around I have right now is to stream from the NAS to my PC and then from the PC to the 360.
  • Hi guys, I have exactly the same problem. I can't access either of my two ReadyNas NV+ from XBox360 or WD HD Live since upgrading from 4.1.6 to 4.1.8. I have been able to get access from the WD HD Live if I reboot the NAS, but it only works immediately after the reboot, not if the NAS was booted more than 10 minutes before the access attempt. it's like a service is starting, running for a while and then dying. How do we get NetGear involved in this? Call Support?

    Andy.
  • I used to have a Netgear Stora. Before this died it streamed perfectly to my XBOX360. I got My DUO V1 and before playing with it, updated to 4.1.8
Like many posts on here the NAS appeared for a few seconds on the 360 and then disappeared, my laptop has always seen it without problems.
Read all the posts, downgraded the software, turned off DNLA, turned off UPNP, turned them back on and all possible combinations. Not forgetting
of course to manually set an IP address on everything I could and checking there were no conflicts.
The connections were still the same as with my old Stora, ie Laptop to router via Wireless, XBOX cable to back of router, ReadyNAS cable to back of router.

Then came Christmas - time to get the decorations out of the loft ... I noticed I had an old Netgear Ethernet Hub (switch) in a long forgotten box.

So this is how I fixed it.

Updated Software to 4.1.8, turned on DNLA and UPNP.
I plugged the XBOX into the Hub
I plugged the ReadyNAS into the Hub
I plugged the Hub into the router

I am now able to stream pictures, films and audio via the XBOX again (including numerous on/off/reset tests)

No idea why it worked, but it does

    Hope that helps someone

If you temporarily move the DUO back to the router, does the original failure come back?
  • Hi StephenB

I tried that on your suggestion and as soon as I plugged the NAS directly back into the router the XBOX couldn't see it

As soon as I plugged it back into the Hub I could stream straight away - no restart required on anything

Let me know how you get on
  • i also have the NAS Duo at the moment and i am having exactly the same problems more or less.......

my duo is plugged into my router directly and my xbox is wireless... my xbox can see the duo, however... when i select the duo on it on my xbox i can't access it. but if i stop the dlna service and restart it the xbox still can't access it, lastly when i rescan the media files and then connect from my xbox i can see all the videos and play them fine.

when i turn my xbox off and back on again i have to do the above again.

    its so annoying believe me.

    version I'm running is 4.1.8
  • My xbox can see my duo consistantly but it can't see the files. I'm asking ing a newer post why that woulc happen. Noted that my xbox is connected by MoCA to my router and not by wireless as thats been known to cause issues.
  • Okay, this is weird. Further to my post above...

Having got the DUO V1 ( running 4.1.8 ) to see the XBOX by connecting the two to the router via a switch (which worked faultlessly), all of a sudden videos that played perfectly previously began stuttering and randomly freezing. Also MP3's that played fine before suddenly stopped. Win7 windows when accessing the NAS, took ages to refresh.

    But, all the time everything worked - just s l o w l y.

Having read the posts about slow downs etc I upgraded to 4.1.9-T2 beta

Speed suddenly returned, no stuttering or freezing and ... I could see the DUO on the XBOX and instantly on my iPhone

So, I reconnected the NAS and the XBOX directly back to my router without the switch for a trial and they see each other perfectly.

Maybe something was broken in 4.1.8?

Hope it works for you - but heed the warnings - beware of betas as they are not the final code
