ReadyNAS 102 and Hotmail Alerts

I guess I should add I've tried smtp.live.com, both ports 25 and 587, ticked use TLS and my hotmail address - maybe I'm misunderstanding what they mean by user and password - the manual says they need the user and password that is associated with the email address - does this really mean both my email address and the password I use to access it, or is it referring to a ReadyNas user and password?
