Thanks for the info about the SMB Plus app. However I believe the problem lies more with OS X rather than the NAS software so I’m inclined to leave that unchanged.
I’ve since read this Mac OS X hints post for defaulting the network stack to SMB1 by creating ~/Library/Preferences/nsmb.conf populated with:
The test I did on Friday connecting using cifs:// proved more stable. And so far today with this latest change the shares have not yet dropped.
