No I have not considered that option. It sounds a bit drastic and I can't remember ever doing a factory reset before (I did have to RMA the NAS last year so maybe that coincided with the reset?). We do backup to external HDD over USB3 each night so I do have the data backed up, but the NAS is 'live' in our studio and contains all current work so I can't really take it offline (other than evening / weekends).
I'm game to try anything to solve this problem but when you ask have I tried this to see if it makes a difference, it makes me think there's a chance after doing this that the problem will still be present. Could this be the case?
Is a backup, reset & restore straight forward? How long may it take with ~2TB of data using USB3?
Also, yesterday I was thinking this problem could be to do with SMB on OS X but thinking about it now, I notice other network shares from Windows 2011 SBS over SMB don't randomly disconnect, just the NAS.
