ReadyNAS 1100 Can't delete folder Win 7
New to forum. Have ReadyNAS 1100 and ReadyNAS NV+ on my home network. I have purchased and used tech support in the past and now can no longer afford this and am hoping this forum can help solve some issues.
ReadyNAS 1100 [X-RAID]
Firmware: RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a147]
Memory: 512 MB [2.5-3-3-7]
4x1TB drives
Problem: When accessing my 1100 using CIFS from Win 7 Ultimate SP1 I cannot delete folders (New Folder added but cannot delete from within Windows Explorer)
CIFS
Share folder owner: nobody
Share folder group: nogroup
Share folder owner rights: read/write
Share folder group rights: read/write
Share folder everyone rights: read/write
Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files is checked
Would appreciate any help/thoughts
Thank you

- vandermerweMasterThose are the advanced share settings, what have you got set under the cifs tab?
On the advanced tab, change the owner to admin and the group to users.
You have users setup on the nas I presume and these match windows users ( usernames and passwords)?
Next check the box next to the sentence Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems. then click apply.
Let us know what you have in the cifs tab, you may need to change some things there too. - dmf0001AspirantSecurity Mode
Share - checked
Worksgroup: workgroupname
I don't have any users set up. I have been using the NAS shared so that all could have access to all files. (Maybe not a good idea?)
Share(s) - two shares with same settings:
Name=sharename
Primary Group=nogroup
Quota=0
CIFS Settings
Share Name: backup
Default Access: Read/Write
Share Access Restrictions - not checked
Share Display Option - not checked
Recycle Bin - not checked
Opportunistic Locking - not checked
AFP (also available as and advertised over Bonjour) Settings:
Default Access: Read/Write
HTTP/S Settings
Default Access: Read/Write
Advanced Options Settings
Share folder owner: nobody
Share folder group: nogroup
Share folder owner rights: read/write
Share folder group rights: read/write
Share folder everyone rights: read/write
Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files is checked
I have not made any changes yet. I wanted to give you more information before changing anything.
I appreciate your help. - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserShare security was deprecated quite a while ago, because it doesn't work that well with newer versions of Windows. You are only seeing it because it you had it installed before. If you do a factory reset, it will disappear.
I don't recall if this option shows up if you are using the share security mode. If it is there, try using it, and report back.vandermerwe wrote: ...check the box next to the sentence Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. Is there a chance that may happen?
Also, I have not done a factory reset in quite awhile and don't remember what it does, the steps and implications... Is there a link on this forum for that?
Thanks! - StephenBGuru - Experienced User-Changing the security mode will not result in any data loss.
-No one is suggesting a reset.
Is checkbox vandermerwe suggested visible to you? (select the share listing, click on the CIFS icon for the specific share, and then the advanced tab on the upper right).
If so, just try that. If not, please confirm that it isn't there. - dmf0001AspirantThanks StephenB and vandermerewe
I have the following settings currently
CIFS -
Default Access: Read/write
Share Access Restrictions
all unchecked axcept
Checked - Allow guest access
Advanced CIFS Permission
Checked - Automatically set permissions on new files and folders.
Checked - Do not allow ACL changes to be more restrictive than this.
When new files are created over CIFS, set file permission as follows. Group rights are permission for members of the file owner's group. Everyone refers to all other users not in the file owner's group.
Group rights: Read/write
Everyone rights: Read/write
When new folders are created over CIFS, set folder permission as follows. Group rights are permission for members of the folder owner's group. Everyone refers to all other users not in the folder owner's group.
Group rights: Read/write
Everyone rights: Read/write
Advanced Options
Advanced Share Permission
Share folder owner: nobody
Share folder group: nogroup
Share folder owner rights: Read/write
Share folder group rights: Read/write
Share folder everyone rights: Read/write
Checked - Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files.
From Win7 Explorer I can get to files. Properties on folders and files are read-only filled in square, not checked and not blank
When I delete a folder it disappears will reappear if I move away from the directory and refresh its contents
Thanks for your help - StephenBGuru - Experienced UserIs there a checkbox on the advanced options page right above the "Grant rename and delete privileges to non-owner of files" that is labeled
"Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems." - dmf0001AspirantI did that and applied but it didn't change anything in terms of my ability to delete a folder
- dmf0001AspirantSo no other thoughts from the forum... It looks like the permission changes apply to new files. How does one change permissions on existing files on the NAS?
Thanks - RXLuminaryKindly try these steps:
1. Open command prompt and enter this command: net use * /delete and select Yes. This is to be sure that there is no one accessing the shares.
2. Access Frontview.
3. Set Security mode to User.
4. Make sure that there are no Windows Explorer window opened on your PC.
5. On Shares>ShareListing>CIFS>Advanced CIFS Permission check the box that says "Automatically set permissions on new files and folders..." then click Apply.
Note: If it is already checked, uncheck it and click Apply. Then, check it again then click Apply.
6. Click on Advanced Options tab, set the Share folder owner to "nobody" and set the Share folder group to "nogroup." Then check the boxes that says "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders..." and "Grant rename and delete privileges..." Then click Apply.
Note: Repeat steps 5 & 6 on each share.
7. Try to copy, paste, delete, rename and check if same problem occurs. Do this as well using other PCs/laptops to isolate the problem and make sure you are logged-in as admin user on it.
Hope the instructions above would help :)
