Readynas 1100 completely dead

My readynas 1100 is completely dead. No lights and no fans start up when pressing the power button. Tried replacing the power supply but nothing happens either.

I do have a ReadyNAS Ultra 4 (ReadyNASRNDU4000) available, tried to move the disks to it but i only get the error: ERR: could not mount root RAID d

Any ideas on what to do?

    Hello djxtc,

    Welcome to the community!

ReadyNAS 1100 is a sparc-based while the ReadyNAS Ultra 4 is intel-based. You cannot use the disks from 1100 on any Intel-based chassis expecting to have data intact, these two do not have the same architecture and OS. I do hope you have full back up of the data as you have already inserted the RAID disks to another chassis, possible data loss.

Your best choice is either get a data recovery service or find a sparc-based ReadyNAS and insert the disks to it, they should be inserted in the same order, that is important if you want to keep data intact.

    Regards,

  • I actually managed to buy a spare unit and am currently booting it up. Is it enough to move the disks (in the right order of course) to the new unit. I've noticed that there is a USB memory stick inside the unit, do i need to move that one too?

the new unit shows up in raidar but only shows the status Quota Check and im not able to connect to the web ui.

      Hello djxtc,

This could mean that one (or maybe more) of the disks has gone bad. Problem is we do not know which disk/s.

You could have followed mdgm suggestion since brand new ReadyNAS OS6 units come with free 90-day technical support over the phone, chat and email. In case you encounter any problem with the migration or if you need to, they will walk you through it.

      Regards,

The 90 day free technical support may not cover help with attempting to recover data from an array taken from an old ReadyNAS unit.
