ReadyNAS 2100 with dual ethernet keeps over-writing second gateway

I have a ReadyNAS 2100 with dual Ethernet ports. I want to have access to the NAS from two co-located but completely separate networks.

When I put the credentials in for the second Ethernet port (whether via DHCP or static) the gateway keeps being over-written by the eth0 gateway address.

I've even tried manually editing /etc/network/interfaces with vi but that has a comment in that it is auto-generated and will be over-written.

Am I mis-understanding how these two Ethernet ports can be used and, if not, how do I set the properties?

Thanks.

  • You can have access from two completely separate networks with a single gateway entry, and as a matter of fact, with no gateway entry at all. What the gateway entry does is specify how the device reaches a host on a network to which the device is not directly connected.
