ReadyNAS 516 repeated btrfs_sync_log+925

I have a 516 which has developed a problem indicated as btrfs_sync_log+925 in the electroluminescent front panel display window. It is a recurring problem, normally occurs about 30-45 minutes after the unit has been booted. After the failure report the unit continues to serve files over the network, but the error seems to prevent completing a requested shutdown.

I have looked in the logs and it appears each time a BUG event is listed, followed by an oops message. This does not look like it is going to heal itself since it has been going on for a while. Here is a screen shot of a diagnostic request using the RAIDar application:

Background is this is a RAID-6 configuration with six 4TB drives. Couple of drives replaced recently with successful rebuild reported after each drive replacement.

  • I suggest doing a factory reset, reconfiguring the NAS and restoring the files from backup.

Painful, but this will be hard to diagnose, and rebuilding the NAS is probably faster than attempting it.

Thanks - While I am hoping for a better understanding of what is happening, I am making use of the fact that it is still serving files to back up the critical content to another server in case I need to reinitialize.

Obviously it's important to back everything up.

I've seen something similar once before, but no solution was posted.

After the backup is done, I guess you could try a balance, and see what happens.
