ReadyNas 6.2 (NAS locks up entirely)
EDIT BY MODERATOR: Please see the post at the end of the thread: http://www.readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=456217#p456217
I guess i am not the only one this is happening to!
everything worked fine for 6.1.9 (except for my root at 99% problem last month)
once I updated, I transferred aprox 2 gigs of information it locks up every time
all apps are working fine.
as a business owner i have come to the conclusion (with the amount of problems i have been having) ReadyNas is not meant for a reliable means of backing up seems majority of the fixes are "back everything up and factory reset!" I think that answer is as good as telling someone with computer problems to hit there computer a few times and see if it works.
now i have gone to support many times yes they are quite helpful but only within 90 days of purchase of the unit! then they insist that i pay for a extension of that support.... i have 3 IBM servers and when there hardware fails (one little problem with a driver one year later) they back up the reseller in making sure my system is back up and running within 48 hours (no they are not leased or have a protection plan)
If it wasent for the guys in the forums i would have beaten the system with a bat (please see Office space the movie)... sorry for the rant just truly frustrated with the system

- L1zardAspirantMy RN102 had similar problem on 6.2.2. (freeze every one-two days)
Since installation of 6.2.3-T1696 it works stable, today uptime is 3 weeks without any lock up. - abcd12341AspirantHas anyone tried ReadyNASOS 6.3.3-T142 - Beta 8 on RN104 and RN102?
- tommylommytommyAspirantAfter finding 6.2.3-T1721 unstable i tried 6.2.3-T1742, but upon reboot after uploading the firmware file through the UI, it just said 'Booting... Installing/updating FW' and stayed there for hours untill i pulled the plug. Everytime i tried powering it on it said the same thing and never went on. So... i tried without luck, OS reinstall, which didn't work either, just waited and nothing happened. So... i labeled and removed all hd's and inserted a blank spare HD and chose factory reset. After the 10 minute waiting period it just says 'Installing FW x-raid2 Mode' and nothing happens.. It shows up in raidar when in the 10 minute waiting period, but disappears from raidar as soon as it tries to install fw.
Anyone had similar problems? Any recommendations ? - I have had that problem earlier but after I put the disk in my PC and used diskpart to clean it (blank it completely) it installed the new firmware ok. But it sounds like you already did that, if not try cleaning the new disk from partitions completely.
- mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredYes Beta 8 should work well on the 102/104 though you may see a higher reported fan speed than on 6.2.x on the 102.
- FlinderAspirantI was satisfied with 6.1.9 on my RN104, very stable OS, RN104 with 4 disk never stopped.
My problems have started with the 6.2.X, all release, frozen at anytime, any activity or not. The more stable was the 6.2.3-T1721 almost 3 days without frozing. After having tried the 1730, again my RN104 became unstable.
When i see the 6.3.3-T142 with the new Kernel was availaible, i updated my RN104 but something must have been wrong with the update and the RN104 has never boot again. I tried everything with the menu: Normal boot, Factory default, OS Reinstall. The result is always the same, the RN104 start then become frozen whit the power light blinking. Memory and Disk Test perform well without errors but the nas don't boot. I can't access my shared, or the admin web interface, or by SSH. When i try to reinstall the OS, I have this mesage: 'Corrupt Root' on Raidar.
I think the upate has corrupt the flash memory where is the copy of the OS and my only hope is to rebuild it with the USB Recovery procedure, reinstall the 1721, latest stable realease in my case. I found the old USB procedure for Spark and X86, but don't find it for ARM.
If i can't reinstall the OS on my RN104, i will have to move to another NAS, reusing my 4 disk.
Thanks for any help. - mdgm-ntgrNETGEAR Employee RetiredHi Flinder,
I have just sent you a PM - tommylommytommyAspiranti have exactly the same problem Flinder, except mine doesn't even show up in raidar. Lastest beta was a killer :(
