ReadyNAS Duo - password lenth

I'm using ReadyNAS Duo.

I would like to know if there is way to bypass the users password limitation (9 characters only).

My duo v1 will accept passwords of 30 characters (perhaps more, I stopped testing there). What firmware are you running?
  • My duo running RAIDiator 4.1.14 [1.00a043] will accept passwords of over 20 characters
  • I've got a very old version, RAIDiator 4.1.10.
    Is this a firmware limitation?

Is the firmware update safe? Should i backup everything before i try it?

Is there a way to backup everything (settings and data), so that i can easily restore them?

You can use backup jobs to backup your data and do a config backup via System > Config Backup to backup the configuration (it is important to keep the config backup .zip file as this is what you would need to restore).

It is advisable to backup your important data regularly regardless of whether you are doing a firmware update. No important data should be stored on just the one device. It is certainly prudent to backup your data where possible before doing firmware updates.
  • Thanks for your answers everyone.

mdgm: Is it a firmware issue?
The admin password menu allows me to store 20 characters. If i browse the user and group accounts menu, i can only type up to 9 char.

Does the config backup also save the file structure?

Could be. I would recommend updating to the latest firmware and retesting.

I can type longer passwords, but the UI doesn't at some point looks like it isn't accepting the characters. However it is.

That was actually the problem! The UI looks like it's not accepting characters, but it actually is.
