ReadyNAS Duo error flashes, Tech Support Case 18205894

Hello,

I have a ReadyNas Duo (RND2000 V2 it says on the bottom) which I bought July 2010. It has 2 2GB disks in it. Monday I turned it off by pressing the power button for 5 secs, since the mains had to be shut down. Turning it on today now the mains is fixed, it seems to boot. I can ping it, but it refuses a windows network connection. The power light is giving me a pulsating sequence of 4 pulses ending in a low intensity long pulse, then 4 pulses ending mid intensity, then another 4 ending in high intensity. The final set in the sequence ends in the power light off after the 4 pulses. During each long pulse (and the off one) I get a short burst of disk activity and a flash of the ACT light. Disk lights for 1 & 2 are on permanently.

Would really like to get it up and running. Any ideas on the meaning of these lights?

Many Thanks in advance.

It's a Duo (v1). The Duo v2 was released November 13th 2011. NetGear labelled some Duo (v1) units e.g. RND2000 v2 presumably long before they decided to release a new product called the Duo v2. The RND2000 v2 sticker indicates a minor hardware change compared with earlier Duo (v1) units. Probably useful for NetGear troubleshooting defective units received via RMA.

Can you see the NAS in RAIDar (http://www.readynas.com/downloads)? If so what do you see. Of particular interest would be what you see under the Info (far right) column.
  • Hello,

No, I can't see it in RaidAr. I can ping it, but that's all. If I try to get to it with windows explorer, when it's not available and I hit "Diagnose" it says connections refused by Nas. I guess it refuses raidar as well. :(

I'd suggest opening a tech support (http://www.readynas.com/support) case (edit the thread title i.e. subject of first post in the thread) to include your case number.

Can you try turning the NAS off then turning it on again? Monitor the NAS in RAIDar (if it appears briefly) closely as it may give some clues as to what the problem is.
  • Hello mdgm,

Thanks. Have submitted ticket and modifed thread title i hope as suggested. Restarted the NAS and continually rescanned in Raidar, but it never shows up.
  • Wow, I just jumped onto the forums to find a place to post my problem and read this post; it is exactly what I am experiencing. I also have a Duo V1 and cannot get any contact with it via the web front end, via RAIDar or any other way. But, I can ping it. Otherwise, it's doing nothing & I can't think of any way to interact with it to try to solve this. Please post your solution from techsupport as this is really bad for me.

stueyb please open your own support case. NetGear has a method of remotely diagnosing problems (if needed) and if they do need to do this they can provide instructions on how to set this up. They may have a record of what the light pattern means and be able to quickly identify what the problem is.

Great, thanks for the suggestion. I'll do just that. Cheers.
