Hi StephenB,
The enclosure arrived and I connected the installed HDD to an old Windows 7 laptop. Windows didn't detect the disk (it didn't appear in My Computer). I downloaded Seatools, which seemed to partially recognise that it was a USB attached disk, but it couldn't determine the model number or serial number. It passed a disk self test but failed both the short and long generic tests. After that each time I disconnected / re-connected the drive (trying different USB ports on the laptop, then Windows kept saying 'USB device was not detected' and in Windows device manager, it appeared as a generic device with an exclamation mark next to it. I wondered if using a newer laptop might help, so I am now using a Windows 10 machine.
With Windows 10, at first there was no difference - Windows still didn't detect the drive, and device manager showed me that the device wasn't installed properly, but eventually, it installed the driver, and it appeared in device manager with no exclamation mark. It still doesn't appear in My Computer though, so I can't simply double click on it, and start exploring files (that would be too easy right?!) So I ran Seatools again, and similalrly, it passes the disk self test, but fails both short and long generic tests.

Next I tried R Linux for Windows. The disk is detected by R Linux, but only as a disk of 7.87GB. I started a scan of the disk, but it looks pretty bad and it's onl been running for 15 mins or so. Am I right in saying that it thinks it's going to take 1 month and 12 days to comeplete the scan?!
Cheers
Olly

It looks to me like the disk has failed, so I don't think you'll be able to get any data off of it.
