Readynas duo v1 and new netgear d6300 modern router wan port

Hi all

I have a duo v1. Love it. Just had a brand new d6300 netgear super fast modem router delivered. I was wondering if I could connect the nas to the d6300's WAN rather than LAN port as I have five things to wire in.

I know I can't add my laptop or ip phone or sonos bridge into WAN but can I do the NAS that way and if do do I need to change ny settings on either?

Many thanks as always.

Cjd

The short answer is you will get the same issues with the Duo as you would get with the laptop, IP phone, sonos bridge ...

Get a gigabit switch instead (for instance a gs605). a 5-port switch would give you 8 LAN ports total.
  • Thanks Stephen

I will do that... I have an old TP Link TS SF1005D which is only 10/100 but I oculd plug the IP Phone into that.... its an Avaya 4610SW IP as I presume that doesnt need gigabit?

    Thanks

An IP phone only needs 100 megabit. To get your five connections you'd need to connect two things to the switch, and 3 to the router (with one cable between the two).

Though the Sonus bridge also has a passthrough ethernet port (at least the one here does: http://www.sonos.com/shop/products/bridge) If you also have two internet ports on yours, you could connect the IP phone to the bridge - eliminating the need for the switch right now.
  • I just wanted to say thank you for your help. I have used the Sonos bridge and the IP phone is in that. I have the NAS, Laptop and PC into the other LAN ports adn the phone and other things all wireles....

THe new Netgear router is giving me some trouble so off over to bug those on the main netgear forum for help :)

And I Was suprised an iPhone 4 does not have 5g wireless.

    But thanks a million
