Readynas Duo V1 intermittent issues
Hello,
I've had my ReadyNAS Duo V1 (RND2175) for about 5 years now [current Raidiator = 4.1.14, current Raidar = 4.3.8], which has been working perfectly until recently, when I started to receive experience the following symptoms, which may or may not be related to one another. Please help!
1. In Raidar, the Duo is detected but "Setup" is greyed out. In addition, only a "--" is shown in the "I" (information?) column. I used to be able to click on "Setup" to go to the web interface, and the "I" column used to say something (I'm not sure of the exact verbage) that indicated everything was normal.
2. In Windows Explorer, after clicking on my mapped Duo share folder, I either receive 1) an Restoring Network Connections error (which says the connection has not been restored), 2) am able to enter my username and password, but receive an error message saying the username and password is incorrect, or 3) am able to successfully enter my username and password. I am not able to correlate which outcome I receive to any sort of event (i.e. reboot of my PC while Duo is on or off, etc.)
3) The Duo intermittently responds to web interface commands, such as shutting down and rebooting. During the times that it is unresponsive, I still receive the web interface confirmation that, for example, a volume scan or quotas will be fixed on the next boot up; however, the Duo does not reboot.
4) The Duo intermittently follows the Power Timer schedule, where I have it set to power off at 2am and then power on at 6am. I check the logs only to find that it sometimes never powered down.
5) I'm not sure if this is the cause or just another symptom, but I receive the following log about my second hard disk. I've also copied the SMART Information, which I'm not sure how to interpret
"Disk 2 did not pass SMART self-assessment test. Please replace this disk as soon as possible. Growing SMART errors indicate a disk that may fail soon. If the errors continue to increase, you should be prepared to replace the disk."

- vandermerweMasterI take it you haven't managed to backup the data?
It is really essential to maintain backups of the nas data all the time in case situations like this arise. Raid on one device is not a backup solution
Did you know the volume was so full - this certainly will be contributing to your problems.
You have 3 options:
1. Contact Netgear support and ask them for help retrieving your data, this will involve paying for data retrieval with no guarantee of success.
2. Power down, remove disk 1, attach it to a PC and try to read disk 1 using linux reader:
http://www.diskinternals.com/linux-reader/
If the disk can be read you may be able to see and backup your data.
3. Power down, remove disk 1 and clone it. You will need to use a cloning utility that does sector by sector cloning. Insert the clone and try to boot the duo.
I think option 3 is unlikely to be helpful but will give you another copy of disk 1. - tekngolongAspirantI did not know the volume was full. The last time the drives were accessible (about 5 days ago), it was only 90% full, so I'm not sure why it is all of a sudden reporting 100% full.
