Readynas DUO v2 - Lost access to files
Just recently bought a readynas duo V2, mainly as a mediacenter solution for my mac.
I'm a IT Tech myself and have some experience with NAS from before.
but this NAS is bugging me with super annoying permission problems that I don't understand....
1. When I use transmission on torrents, only transmission can do "cleanup files and delete data".
When i map \\192.168.115.134 and try to move or delete files, I get an error that sais I'm not permitted to do so.
That means i have to COPY, files over to the right folders to rename - then use transmission to delete.... very stupid.
2. I've copied a lot of music from this computer to the NAS into the media/music folder. I thought then about to rename them, and put them in right folders, to make the filestructure good to PLEX mediacenter. I get another error message on MOST of the files that sais that I need to make user "NAS/Nobody" permitted to do this... that's some of the funny part. not all files is involved here - even that all files were dumped in one copy-paste operation on the NAS.
- I have a compatible Harddrive on the NAS.
- Have tried a factory default
- have tried SSH PUTTY CHOWN on the media folder before factory default
- in the interface "Everyone" is permitted to Write/read.
- I can't change ownership through windows 7->security->advanced->owner->local user.
What the heck is wrong with this box? I'm only gonna use it for the SIMPLEST thing ever which is filesharing to my home network...
any tips before I throw this thing out of the window, and return all 5 I ordered to our store to my distributor?
and no - I don't care about the security within my LAN - If theres any way to turn of ALL security features in the box I'll be more than happy.
I've NEVER experienced such behaviour with either Synology or even D-link.
Sorry for being angry - but I've wasted 20hours of my life now on this.

This should be super simple but it's not...
1. When I use transmission on torrents, only transmission can do "cleanup files and delete data".
When i map \\192.168.115.134 and try to move or delete files, I get an error that sais I'm not permitted to do so.
That means i have to COPY, files over to the right folders to rename - then use transmission to delete.... this is after what I see a common problem

- have tried SSH PUTTY CHOWN on the media folder before factory default
- in the interface "Everyone" is permitted to Write/read.
- I can't change ownership through windows 7->security->advanced->owner->local user.
- I have tried to connect to the share in different ways, through different users.

Are NetGear experienced enough to deliver NAS solutions...?

Can you confirm from reading How to tell whether I have a Duo v1 or Duo v2 or NV+ v1 or NV+ v2 that it is a v2?thewizard wrote: I get another error message on MOST of the files that sais that I need to make user "NAS/Nobody" permitted to do this...
Nobody is the guest user. You should be logged in as a user not as a guest.thewizard wrote:

Using chown and chmod ownership and permission settings for existing files can be changed.
Can you check the ownership and permissions of the problem folder (note paths are case-sensitive so use the paths as you find them on your NAS) e.g.
ls -la /media/Music/thewizard wrote:

Permissions are not controlled that way. It's a Linux box not a Windows box. - mekanixzAspirantProblems here too.
I'm using readynas duo v2(yes it is v2) with windows laptop and macbook. I can create a new file/folder BUT i can't cut/copy/paste/delete/rename the existing files/folders (within the NAS). Also for some reason some subfolders are completely unaccessable, i get a message that i don't have permission.
Also i have created a folder for backing up with time machine. A few days ago I formatted and reinstalled ios on my macbook and since then I can't backup any more on that folder.(No i haven't changed accounts or passwords.
My raidiator version is 5.3.3. which is also strange because on site i see that the latest version is 5.3.2......
Any suggestions? - mekanixzAspirantFrom within the netgear configuration page, the problematic folders, don't allow me to change th "share access" and other settings at the right (browse tab)
- diUAspirantSame devise (radiator 5.3.3), same troubles.
I have created "music" share and have full access to it, but I am unable to copy to subfolder say music/rock. It is possible to create a subfolder manually from admin panel before copying to it, but this is very stupid if I want to copy many subfolders. And yes, I am also unable to control share access of any subfolder form admin panel as well.
I understand this is Linux (and I am not Linux guy), but hey, I could copy to my Asus HD2 mediaplayer before without any subfolder permission problems. So this is not linux, this is something wrong... - tomeinarAspirantI'm on radiator 5.3.4 and I'm experiencing the same issues as described here. Both in the context of using transmission, but also that I've lost control over subfolders for some weird reason. I have not gone to great lengths to try and reproduce concrete steps that say support could follow, because I have more or less lost faith in the device. Seems like there is nothing but trouble with this NAS.
From an end-user perspective this is just not up to par. - hoppingdethAspirantSame here. Win7 64 and I have Duo AND a V2 Duo. I now use the V2 Duo as a backup system to the older and slower one because I can't rename\ edit\ delete any files on the V2 from within Windows!! Lol..!
I can view them and play them (media files), but I can't move or delete. Windows states 'You Need Permission from Unix User\admin to make changes to this file...', yet the Duo V2's very limited selection of share access switches are all switched on for 'Everyone'. Creating specific user has no bearing on it either. I can remove and edit files from the V2 from within it's front end sw though. My old V1 Duo works fine either way.
Anyone has some ideas then that would be great. - evan2NETGEAR ExpertThis is a limitation on 5.3.3, there is not advanced share permissions setting, 5.3.5 will add the feature which let new and existing subfolders have same permission with home shares.
- Mic255AspirantSame problem here. I am trying to clean up on My Duo V1 Raidiator 4.1.8 (BECAUSE IT IS FULL OF FILES THAT I AM NOW NOT ALLOWED TO DELETE!!!) but for most files and folders it states "You need permission from 'UNIX USER/nobody' to delete this file".
I still have fresh in mind the lack of 64bit support for WNDA3100 so know that I am less than impressed with your product support.
How about this simple suggestion:
1. Create page for admin login
2. Admins are given all rights
Why do I have to think of this? - evan2NETGEAR ExpertIn Raidiator 4.1.8, please login frontview and open Shares\Share Listing\CIFS\Advanced Options, then select "Set ownership and permission for existing files and folders in this share to the above settings. This option is useful in cases where you are changing security levels and need to workaround file access problems."
