ReadyNAS Duo V2 Bad Disks Detected

Hello All,

I purchased a used ReadyNAS Duo V2 (yes, it's a V2 I checked) and I am trying to set it up.

I am using the unit with just a single 2Tb drive for now.

I deleted the Volume from windows disk management and I performed factory reset to the NAS.

Then I get the error "Bad Disks Detected" on RAIDar and blue light of Bay 1 blinking steady.

I then switched the disk to the second bay and RAIDar shows the same thing.

I have never managed to login to the admin web page.

Also the system never shut down from the power button (yes, pushing it twice). Not even if the NAS doens't have any drives in.

I removed the drive, inserted the disk with an external case to my PC and created a volume. I formatted it and the drive works OK. I don't know what to do next.

I did an HDD scan with windows and did not find any errors....

The drive model is Samsung HD204UI 2T

Is there a problem with the device?

Can you please help me out?

  • even a hard drive that passes pc disk tests may still be unsuitable for nas

can u do a factory reset with the drive in bay 1? this is to avoid what has been set up by the previous owner.

  • Yes, it was the first thing I did.

    What do you mean "unsuitable"?

Tried on both bays as a matter of fact and I am getting the "Bad disks detected" error.
I was using the drive for data storage without any problems before inserting it to the NAS. I even backed up its data before deleting the volume (1.3Tb of my files).
I will download the Samsung HDD diagnostics and run them as a next step, but this NAS issue is so frustrating..

Do you have any other ideas?
