Readynas duo v2 battery death symptoms?

Received a readynas duo v2, which was supposedly 'for parts only', not working. Plugged it in, powered up fine. Installed 500GB disk, waited until it settled in, then another. Synched up fine. Powere...

    AFAIK, the battery is only used to back up the clock when the power is off.  I'm unsure whether the standby voltage (not sure if it's 3.2VSB or 5VSB on the DuoV2) also powers the clock, so the battery would only be needed if power is completely disconnected.

     

    There is no speaker or other device in the NAS that can beep, so that's one of your drives doing that.  The stepper motor can sound a lot like a beep when things go wrong with the drive.  It could be insufficient current from the power supply causing it, so you could try a different one since you have other similar NAS.
