I presume you're talking about an "OS Reinstall", so you can read info about it here: https://kb.netgear.com/20898/ReadyNAS-ReadyDATA-Boot-Menu

Yes, Sandshark meant to type OS reinstall.
It will reset the IP address to use DHCP and also the admin password to the factory default (netgear1 in your case). It should not destroy your data. If you follow the instructiions in jak0lantash's link, then keep in mind that you have a v1, and not a v2
The OS reinstall is a bit of a long-shot, but it might do the trick. Let us know.

Oh yes yes yes, forgot to mention that. And it's critically important that you follow the steps for v1, NOT for v2.

Followed instractions at http://www.downloads.netgear.com/files/GDC/RND2110/Duov1_NV+v1_HW_en_06Dec11.pdf
The only thing that seemed to change was the password, which I changed back.
The fan RPM is now 4687 !
Any other ideas? I may have to get another NAS, the fan noise is driving me crazy!
