Can you put the drive in the PC and delete the partitions on it, then put it back in the NAS?
When you try the factory default are you doing this?:
1. Power down NAS if it is on.
2. Press and hold reset button
3. Turn ReadyNAS on
4. Continue to hold reset button. The disk LEDs should flash twice. Once after 5 seconds and a second time after 30 seconds. Release after the second blink.
