ReadyNAS FTP service hangs
I'm having issues with the FTP service on my ReadyNAS box. After a period of time the server refuses logins/connections. I try to stop the service and I receive an error. However, if I restart the service it successfully restarts and everything works fine for a month or two. Does anybody know of any issues with this service? I have upgraded the firmware as of last week to the latest version. This has been an ongoing problem for the past year or 2.

MDGM-NAS:~# /etc/init.d/proftpd restart - iConeAspirantHaving the exact problem as the OP, the FTP service stops working after 1 day and the only way that I know how to restart it is by rebooting the NAS.
Can someone tell me a way to restart the service without restaring the whole NAS? - SlaskyAspirantIt should do fine with going to Standard File Services -> FTP disable, apply and enable and apply to bypass this issue

Thanks, thought that disabling it will reset any permissions on the folder; guess not. Was able to connect thru SSH and manually reset proftpd, this is becoming an early morning daily task for me.
Would like to know when this issue will be finally resolved. - SlaskyAspirantI had this problem a while ago, but it disappeared during a beta update of 4.1.7 iirc. That was on my Duo tho. What kind of firmware you running on your Ultra?

Ultra 4 running RAIDiator 4.2.21. - SlaskyAspirantHmmm, I'm running that firmware on my Ultra, and I haven't had any problems with it. It's not an answer though :P
You could try opening a support ticket at my.netgear.com and see if the techs can help you with your problem.
You could also download the logs from frontview and see if any of those give any indication of why the service fails. - iConeAspirant

Ticket opened, 19152802. - iConeAspirantThe techs suggested an OS reinstall which I did, the FTP service continued to work but after closing the ticket the NAS started to hang so in order to minimize the damage disabled FTP and after disabling the service no more hang ups; will enable it only on a when needed basis.
- StephenBGuru - Experienced UserYou probably should consider doing a factory reset - though of course that would mean restoring all your data from backup and reconfiguring the NAS.
